as years go by we notice that our face changes due to skin aging, stressful lifestyle and sagging of deep structures due to force of gravity: loss of definition of the jawline contour, skin sagging on the neck, flattening of the cheekbone area.
The aim of a facelift is to reposition these deep tissues and to remove excess skin to offer the patient a fresher, more youthful and rested look without changing their appearance.
One must bear in mind that each procedure designed to restore a more youthful appearance has some limits, that aging keeps progressing and that the hands of our biological clock cannot be moved back so as to have back the face of 30 years before: excessive skin traction are useless to rejuvenate a face, but end up with giving patients a "drawn" and sometimes unnatural face.
Scars are generally hardly visible (unless the patient tends to produce hypertrophic scarring) and results are long-lasting.
Skin incisions can vary from man to woman and in many cases facelift can be associated to neck liposuction (for a better definition of the neck) and removal of excess eyelid skin (blepharoplasty) to obtain the best results.
Complications: infection, haematoma, skin necrosis (smokers)
