The result is due to removal of excess eyelid skin, reduction of
fat pouches and in selected cases modification of the shape of the
eyelid edge (canthopexy).
Blepharoplasty
can reduce but cannot by any means eliminate wrinkles around the eyes
(elective indication for botulin toxin) and is not indicated if pouches
are only due to swelling for liquid retention.
Results are long-lasting.
It
is important to bear in mind that blepharoplasty does not give eyebrow
lifting (to get this effect a brow lift has to be performed, or a
complete forehead lifting or a browlift).
Blepharoplasty con involve either upper or lower eyelids or both.
How long does surgery take?: 50'/1h30
Anaesthesia: local (upper blepharoplasty), sedation or general anaesthesia
Hospitalization: day hospital
Post-op:
ice pack for 24 hours, sutures are removed after 5 days, bruising for
at least 10/14 days (after 8 days specific make-up can be used), avoid
the sun and UV lamps for 8/10 weeks and for the following 3 months
sunbathing only using total sun screens (on scars) and sun glasses. Use
of contact lenses is not indicated for 2 weeks following surgery.
