Many different causes can give a downward shift of breasts (pregnancy,
prolonged breast feeding, reduced skin elasticity, large breasts,
aging).
Breast uplift surgery repositions breasts to their original position.
Evidently in the case of large breasts it is advisable to reduce
breasts to have a more long lasting effect (large breasts tend to
"fall" more rapidly due to the force of gravity).
The scar can be around the areola, vertical or an inverted T-shape.
In some cases breast uplift can be associated to increase in volume by means of implant (generally small).
Following
surgery alterations of sensitivity of the areola-nipple complex may
occur and breast feeding can be compromised (these alterations will not
occur if the peri-areolar technique alone is employed).
Complications: infection, haematoma, asymmetry, ptosis relapse (in large breasts), hypertrophic scarring.
How long does surgery take?: 2-3 hours
Anaesthesia: general
Hospitalization: day hospital / 1 night
Post-op: sport-type bra must be worn for 3 months, removal of external stitches (if present) 12 days after surgery.
Time off work 7/10 days. No sport activities for 8/12 weeks. Antibiotic therapy
