The main aim of removing a cosmetic mole is the quality and position of
the scar.
The
quality of the scar can vary, depending on the type of skin and the
area that is affected: scars on the back, for example, are never very
high quality (because of tension of the skin due to continuous
movements), whereas scars on the face or on the abdomen are generally
less evident.
I think it is very important to explain the old conception of "better never to touch a mole":
- Moles can be removed for purely cosmetic reasons
- Computerized mapping of moles is a very important means of screening
- Moles that undergo repeated trauma must be removed
- Often it is advisable to perform a histologic exam of the mole that has been removed
- Laser
is indicated only to remove verrucous moles or dermatofibromas. The
use of laser on moles with a different structure means that the
histologic exam cannot be performed
